World’s No.1 Social website “Facebook” has now added a new feature that allow users to download their profile information to their computers.
This feature is now available in the user’s account settings with title “Download Your Information”. Facebook registered users can access this feature by clicking on “Account” on the top right corner of their facebook-profile/home page and then selecting the “Account Settings” from the opening context menu.
Download Your Information link is is just below the Account Security link in the Facebook Account Settings Page.
This new feature from facebook can be used to download all profile information, including videos and photos, wall posts, messages, friend lists and other contents to your computer.
For the time being, this new feature is not instant, i.e. one is not able to download his profile information at the same time. The feature is on request basis. The download needs to be requested, and it will take longer for large accounts, i.e. accounts with many videos, many pictures, many contacts, many wall posts etc.
Once, the download is requested, the Facebook user is notified via email that their information is ready to download. The email consists of the download link but is password protected. To download the account information to your computer, your account password is required to be entered.
The downloaded information will be in “zip” format which would further needed to be unpacked before use. To unpack the “zip” file, you can use any from a variety of Compression tools/softwares like winzip, winrar, etc.
