Tutorial to Create and Make a Bootable Windows 7 ISO DVD from EXE plus Setup1.box and Setup2.box Files

From my previous post of Winows 7 Direct Dowload links leaked, many of my readers requested me to provide a tutorial for making windows 7 professional 150x150 Tutorial to Create and Make a Bootable Windows 7 ISO DVD from EXE plus Setup1.box and Setup2.box Filesan ISO disc from the EXE, Setup1.box and Setup2.box Files , so that it would be an easier task for them to make clean and fresh install on their system.

Thanx to DigitalLife, I am here by providing a tutorial for creating an ISO image from the 3 downloaded files from MS server.

To create a bootable disc from the downloaded files simply follow these steps:

  • Copy all the 3 downloaded files (the .exe, setup1.box and setup2.box) in one single drive  (for this tutorial, let’s assume the files are put in Drive C  i.e. C:\ ).
  • Right click on each of three files, select Properties, and then click on Unblock button to prevent files from unable to be accessed. Click OK when done.

  • Run the exe (if on Vista on windows 7 RC or RTM or OEM run the exe as administrator by right click and select “RUN as ADMINISTRATOR”), the exe will extract the .box files and will create a new folder with name “expandedSetup” consisting Windows 7 setup files.
  • Exit from Install Windows wizard dialog.
  • Check for the oscdimg.exe %SystemDrive%\Windows\System32 folder. If you don’t have any such file in your System32 folder, than download it by clicking here, and put it in %SystemDrive%\Windows\System32 folder.

  • Now Open the command prompt (with administrative privileges in Vista /in XP command prompt opens with administrative privileges by default) . To open command prompt :
  1. Click on Start button.
  2. Locate the Command Prompt menu item (inside Accessories under All Programs).
  3. Click on Command Prompt (in XP) for Vista : Right click on Command Prompt.
  4. On the pop-up right click context menu, select “Run as Administrator”.
  • In the command prompt run the following command:
    oscdimg.exe –bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com –u2 –h -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\Win7.iso

If the code doesn't work use :

    oscdimg -bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com -h -u2 -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\win7.iso

For 64-bit version if the above two commands doesn't work! use :

    oscdimg.exe –bC:\expandedSetup\boot\bootsect.exe –u2 –h -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\Win7.iso

Tutorial to Create and Make a Bootable Windows 7 ISO DVD from EXE plus Setup1.box and Setup2.box Files

  • All work is done, a bootable ISO DVD image is created in your C:/ Drive named “Win7.iso” . Now, use any CD/DVD burning software like Nero, Ultra ISO , Alcohol 120% or any other, to burn the image in a DVD disc.
  • Tutorial to Create and Make a Bootable Windows 7 ISO DVD from EXE plus Setup1.box and Setup2.box Files

Note: – The complete tutorial assumes that all the 3 files (the .exe and Setup1.box and Setup2.box files) are put in the C Drive i.e. C:\ of your system ( as the command run from the command prompt in the last step uses the path as C:\. If you wish to put files in some different directory or folder, you need to modify the path in command you going to run in command prompt. If you are not familiar with cmd commands, I would suggest you to follow the tutorial step by step and put all 3 files in your C:\ only.

Enjoy, your genuine copy of DVD disc. For any queries or problems faced in the tutorial use the comment box.

  1. I’m getting an error when I finished ‘unpacking’ the exe from my C: Drive. There is a new folder, expandedsetup, in my drive. When I try your command prompt line, I need to add /boot after the expandedsetup (cause the etfsboot.Com file is in the /boot folder.

After that, I get an error Invalid flag “-1″. Any idea what causes this?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Thanx for the Confirmation Wili … :) .. I juzz checked the code by myself .. and i found the corrected one on Technet magazine forum and support …
    try
    ” oscdimg -bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com -h -u2 -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\win7.iso ”

and it will work.. Tell us if it worked for you…

  3. this worked 4 me …having placed all files in c dir oscdimg -bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com -h -u2 -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\win7.iso

  4. Nice to hear a positive reply! :)

  5. Work like a charm!!!

I love the fact that I was able to do a clean install with the upgrade version.

  8. i hv done this successfully …thank u very much bro…

    cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I hope you made the ISO using the tutorial.. now you dont need to use any bootable option, just burn the image on a disc .. use Ultra ISO or Nero.. I tried both and it worked.. (-:

  10. I have done this successfully and I still have a problem I can’t find the damn file win7 iso I put the expanded set up file in c:\ and the finished bootable win 7 iso does not appear there. The cmd goes through the process of doing it comes up 100 % but where is it . I have the iso ok .

  11. you must be having the iso in your C:\ drive mate :)

  14. hi.. thanks for ur great tutorial.. however i only manage tu create iso with windows 7 32 bit version.. i’ve tried several time with windows 7 64 bit but got the error msg.. is it because im now running in xp 32 bit? for ur information my cpu is 64 bit but im running on xp 32 bit.. how can i create iso for windows 7 64 bit? please help.. thank in advance

  15. mate.. I’ll prefer you to go with x86 or 32-bit version if your RAM is upto 3GB…. x64 version Windows 7 is good with 4 GB ram :) .. moreover use the command line prompt from C:\windows\System32> to get it working ;)

  16. :p my ram is 4gb.. and the problem occur when i try to expand the 3 files..

  17. Everything works untill I run install. I get this error…
Windows could not collect information for [OSImage] since the specified image file [install.wim] does not exist.

  18. Hi,i followed all your steps and it worked fine…now i cant findthe w7 image file? was looking for it in C: drive but cant find it..

  19. Getting an error message when reaching the end of unpacking from box. BOTH boxes are unblocked, any ideas what the problem is?

  20. tell us what error you face? it might be some crc error, caused by file corrupt during download

  21. I followed all d instructions u gave. But after i run my Command Prompt and copy all the instructions( for x86) there is and error saying
” Could not open boot sector file “C:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com”
Error 3:System cannot find the path specified”

  22. before running the command line from command prompt, run the downloaded exe file once, it will create a folder with name “expandedSetup” and after that, in your command prompt go to system 32 folder and den run the command line argument :)

  23. I did all dat!!! its still nt working. I hv windows vista ultimate( tell me if dat could be a problem) Command Prompt is on d administator mode! but still there is a prob. I dwnloaded d oscdimg.exe frm d link u provided and put dat file in my system32 folder.

  24. Me vry vry sry dude!!!!! A big mistake on my part dat i put d expanded setup in a folder!!!! Den in d command promp i didnt specify it!!!!
    sry dude!!! Gr8 work !!!!

  25. No probs mate :) … I guess it worked for you now

  26. wicked tutorial… cheers!!!

  27. Doesn’t work.

I click on oscdimg.exe and it exits inmediatly :/ I’m using XP

  28. @ Francesc .. you dont need to click on oscdimg.exe … you must run the downloaded “Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x86.exe” or “Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x64.exe” , which will create a folder consisting all the files and folders as required in the Windows 7 disc

  29. hey having trouble getting by acer’s boot option of IDE vs ASCP. I am running stock 64x win 7 premuim. burnt with nero, and the disk wont even boot into another computer (my other laptop) its running xp now, but i will be putting win 7 x86 on it. somehow

  30. could i use windows’ stock dvd burning software built in? to burn the iso.

  31. yes you can :)

  32. I had problems with this but I found that it may work for those of you receiving the error Invalid flag “-1? or invalid flag “-I” All you have to do, and this was a complete guess on my part is remove the 1 or I from in front of WIN_EN_DVD. So what you type in the command prompt could look like this:

    oscdimg.exe –bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com –u2 –h -m -WIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\Win7.iso

    instead of

    oscdimg.exe –bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com –u2 –h -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\Win7.iso

  33. hello guys pleas help me…im new to this CMD stuff… When i open CMD Run as admins

  34. no problem mate. just follow this:
    1. Open your command prompt as admin.

  35. Thank youuuu i got it: :D

  36. Help me agian… its says unable to create file “C:\win7.iso”
    Error 5 Access Denied

    What to do?

  37. I’ve tried this things, and work like a charm… thanks mate

  38. Setup1.box is not unloading… showing “Unspecified error”.
    Plz Help….

  39. did u unblock all 3 files??? and if yes, then are they corrupt? unblock all files and check again, if still doesnot work, download files back.

  40. chinks plsss help me…. unable to create file “C:\win7.iso”

    What should i do??

  41. @ chinks.. all files are already unblock…
when i start unloading only 177mb unloads then that error comes…
    :(

  42. don’t say corrupt yaar, wasted whole week to download that file :(
    isn’t der any other way????

  43. @ Varun.. thats the problem, downloading files in such long time makes it probable importing CRC errors, I would suggest you to download the iso file directly instead of downloading these 3 files and making iso, you must go through the topic Windows 7 – Home Premium and Professional ISO [x86 and x64] Direct Download Links leaked

  44. Thanks Bro…

  45. I get Error 3 for the codes above.

  46. @ SkyLine , all you need to do is to go to your System32 folder in your command prompt, doo it by going through following steps:
    1. Open your command prompt as admin.
    2. type :- cd C:\Windows\System32
    3. Now you are in your System 32 folder as C:\Windows\System32>
    Now run the command :)

  47. ERROR : invalid flag “-1″

    Please help …

  48. U can just copy the whole command and paste it..please use ur mose to paste it..not by ctrl+v..

  49. avatar lordarchabald says:
